Overview

Mirari Tours, a Sri Lankan travel agency, engaged CodeScale to replace the slow, dynamically-rendered websites typical of the tourism industry with a platform fast enough to compete for search visibility and mobile bookings. Over a 2-month project with a 2-developer team, CodeScale built the site as a Next.js Static Site Generated (SSG) platform, pre-rendering every tour and destination page into static HTML at build time rather than querying a database on each request. This eliminated load-time database calls, let search crawlers index 100% of content without waiting on JavaScript, and removed the database as an attack surface entirely. The mobile-first design uses AVIF/WebP image optimization and was engineered specifically to avoid layout shift during page load. To increase engagement, the team added a lightweight OpenAI-powered trivia game that lets visitors unlock offers by answering questions about Sri Lanka, alongside an interactive destination map and a multi-step booking enquiry wizard designed to filter and qualify high-intent leads for the sales team. The result was a perfect 100/100 Google Lighthouse performance score, near-immediate indexing of new tour pages after deployment, and a reduced bounce rate from eliminating loading spinners.

Project Overview

Mirari Tours partnered with CodeScale to build a digital presence that reflects the premium quality of their travel experiences. Moving away from the slow, dynamic websites common in the industry, we engineered a Static Site Generated (SSG) platform. This architecture ensures every page—from tour listings to destination guides—is pre-rendered for instant access, maximizing SEO visibility and mobile performance.

The Challenge

In the competitive Sri Lankan tourism sector, digital first impressions are critical. Mirari Tours needed to overcome three main market challenges:

1. The "Mobile Speed" Gap

With 70% of travel research happening on smartphones, the industry standard of slow-loading dynamic sites was losing customers. Mirari needed a platform that felt as fast as a native mobile app, even on 4G networks.

2. SEO Visibility

To compete with established giants, the site needed to be perfectly readable by search engine bots. Client-side rendering would not be sufficient to rank for competitive keywords like "Luxury Sri Lanka Tours."

3. User Trust

International travelers hesitate to book with unknown local agencies. The site needed to immediately establish credibility through professional design, transparent pricing, and instant responsiveness.

Our Solution: Static Generation for Instant Performance

We chose Next.js Static Site Generation (SSG) as the core architectural strategy. By pre-building pages at build time, we eliminated database queries on page load, delivering lightning-fast HTML to users globally.

  • Thumb-Friendly Design: Navigation, galleries, and enquiry forms were designed specifically for touch interaction.
  • Optimized Asset Pipeline: Utilized Next.js Image optimization to serve travel photography in AVIF/WebP formats, ensuring high-fidelity visuals without the performance cost.
  • Zero Layout Shift: Engineered the layout to achieve perfect stability scores, preventing the "jumpy" loading experience common on heavy travel sites.

🎨 Immersive & Interactive Features

  • "Play & Explore" AI Feature: To boost engagement, we integrated a lightweight AI-powered trivia game. Users answer questions about Sri Lanka to unlock offers, with AI validating answers in real-time—adding a fun, interactive layer without slowing down the main site.
  • Interactive Map: A custom-built visual map allowing users to explore the island by interest (Wildlife, Heritage, Beach).
  • Smart Enquiry Wizard: A multi-step form that guides users through planning their trip, resulting in higher-quality leads for the sales team.
